CatEx announces election results CatEx Direct Commerce Association has announced the names of its new Advisory Board members, following its recent election. Natasha Cubitt, managing director of gifts retailer The Handpicked Collection and David Lockwood, head of marketing analytics at Direct Wines, are the two newly elected members of the board. They’ll join current CatEx deputy chairman Tim Curtis, managing director, Northern Europe, of apparel cataloguer Lands’ End, who has been re-elected for a further two year term. The changes will see the departure of Martin Harvey of Marshalls Seeds and Heather Gorringe of Wiggly Wigglers, who have decided to step down from the board at the end of their term.
Tesco exits Japan Tesco has announced it is withdrawing from Japan and selling its smallest international retail business. The supermarket’s chief executive Philip Clarke said in a statement that after reviewing the company’s performance in Japan, Tesco concluded that it “cannot build a sufficiently scalable business”.

Mobile Fun extends Euro reach Mobile-phone accessories etailer Mobile Fun will launch Spanish and Dutch websites next month as part of its continued expansion into Continental Europe. It has appointed two country managers to oversee the move.
UK store for Crate & Barrel? US retailer Crate & Barrel, which is owned by German group Otto, will follow up its UK ecommerce launch with a London store, according to published reports. It is understood that Crate & Barrel has appointed a property agency to look at premises in Regents Street and Tottenham Court Road.
Floors-2-Go hits the wall Flooring specialist Floors-2-Go fell into administration on 24th August, closing 53 stores and axing 192 jobs. Thirty-five stores continue to trade and 162 jobs were saved after part of the business was sold to Nixon & Hope, led by two former Floors-2-Go managers.
GNC gets lucky GNC, the US-based sport-nutrition supplements marketer, has acquired LuckyVitamin.com for an undisclosed sum. The deal sees GNC expand its online presence by using LuckyVitamin’s ecommerce platform.
White Stuff gets social in-store Apparel retailer White Stuff has introduced a number of new initiatives to drive store traffic and increase customer engagement in what it calls “retail-tainment”. The retailer has launched a book club in partnership with Penguin Books and a swap shop where customers can return their White Stuff clothes and swap them with other customers’ second-hand outfits.
Buck & Hickman adds clothing to range Buck & Hickman, a b-to-b marketer of health and safety products, has expanded its range to launch a corporate clothing catalogue. The catalogue includes 114 different garment types from jackets and trousers for office wear to high-visibility and flame-retardant clothing.
Virgin Wines relaunches site Virgin Wines has relaunched its website with a faster checkout and an updated favourite page and wish list function. The site was designed in-house.
