LoveLula and Zuneta merger creates Zulu Beauty Online beauty products retailers LoveLula and Zuneta have merged to form Zulu Beauty. The deal was backed by investment from Forward Venture Partners and sees Paul Fisher join the board of the new company alongside LoveLula founder Claire Braithwaite and Zuneta founder Zu Rafalat.
Findel getting back on track Findel’s turnaround efforts are starting to bear fruit, with the multititle catalogue group making a positive start to its new financial year. Group sales inched up 1.1 percent in the first 17 weeks, with pressure on margins offset by cost savings. In the Express Gifts home shopping business, sales and customer numbers were ahead of last year thanks to upgrades in buying and merchandising effectiveness and a stronger focus on improving the value proposition to customers.

Ocado invests in new warehouse Online grocer Ocado has acquired a 2.3-acre site near Oxford which it will develop into a distribution centre, creating up to 170 new jobs. Work to upgrade the 43,000 sq ft warehouse and office space is underway, with the site set to open in November 2011.

Asos launches iPad app Online fashion retailer Asos has launched an iPad app for its customer magazine. Developed in-house, the launch coincides with a redesign of the printed edition. iPad users can access 360-degree product views and rich-media content like behind-the-scenes video and music.
Net-a-Porter sales up, but profits down According to reports, turnover at designer fashion etailer Net-a-Porter rose 56 percent in the 61 weeks to April 2011 to £238 million, but pretax profit fell from £23.5 million to £5.7 million, said to be a result of a company incentive scheme.
Anorexia T-shirt banned Online retailer Zazzle, which sells custom printed T-shirts, has been ordered by the Advertising Standards Authority to stop promoting a T-shirt with the slogan “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, made famous by model Kate Moss. The ASA upheld complaints that the T-shirt could be seen to encourage teenage girls to develop eating disorders.
Quark acquired by private equity house Publishing software provider Quark has been acquired by Los Angeles-based private equity firm Platinum Equity for an undisclosed sum.
Sales and profits up at Stanley Gibbons Philately specialist Stanley Gibbons announced that sales in the first half of the year rose 25 percent to £15 million, with underlying pretax profit up 12 percent to £1.8 million—in line with expectations.
