WorldStores secures investment
WorldStores, the ECMOD Award-winning online retailer, has secured funding for its next stage of growth. Advent Venture Partners and WorldStores’ existing investor Balderton have provided funds of £8.5 million. The investment will allow WorldStores to expand into new categories and develop its service offering.

Alford-Burnett to depart after record turnover at The White Company
Retailer/cataloguer The White Company experienced its fastest sales growth in four years. The upmarket brand, known for its white homewares and bed linen, saw sales increase 22 percent in the year to 26th March, to £102 million—exceeding £100 million for the first time. EBITDA also rose, to £10.7 million—up 37 percent on last year and ahead of management expectations. Announcing the results, Patricia Alford-Burnett confirmed she would be stepping down at the end of the year to pursue other business interests after five years with the company.

CultBeauty completes first-round funding
CultBeauty.co.uk, an online seller of beauty products, has closed its first round of funding led by former Net-a-Porter finance director Murray Salmon. He is partnered on the board by fellow Net-a-Porter alumnus, former chief operating officer Mark Quinn-Newall. Cult Beauty was launched in 2008 by Jessice DeLuca Moore and Alexia Inge. The London-based business has experienced a year-on-year revenue growth of 300 percent since launch.

Jack Wills gets set for sale or float
According to published reports, preppy apparel retailer Jack Wills is gearing up for a sale or float next year that could value the company at some £500 million.

JD Williams invests in mobile
JD Williams, the N Brown-owned home shopping company with titles including Simply Be and Jacamo, has commissioned Starfish 360, a mobile commerce company, to help develop its future m-commerce strategy. JD Williams currently operates 25 separate websites and generates almost 50 percent of turnover online.

DRL predicts strong growth
DRL, the online retailer of white goods and appliances, has forecasted £250 million in sales for the current financial year—up 47 percent on the £170 million it recorded in the year to 31st March. The prediction comes as DRL posted a 50 percent increase in like-for-like sales since March, with flagship brand Appliances Online reporting like-for-likes up by 158 percent in the last three months. Among its plans for continued growth in 2011 is expanding the marketing department and constructing a new web platform.

Nursery products retailer Kiddicare has promoted technology officer Simon Harrow to chief operating officer.
