Pets at Home sold for £955 million
Pets at Home has a new home of its own. Private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) has agreed to buy the retailer from Bridgepoint Capital for £955 million, including debt. KKR’s other retail investments include Alliance Boots. For the year ended March 2009, Pets at Home had EBITDA of £70 million on sales of £404.2 million. 


New chief exec for Fat Face
Fashion cataloguer/retailer Fat Face has named Anthony Thompson, managing director of Asda’s George fashion brand, as its new chief executive. He replaces Louise Barnes, who will be leaving after seven years.

Argos unveils new logo
As part of its first branding update in a decade, general merchandiser Argos has debuted a revamped logo as part of an effort to modernise its image. Argos has also expanded its Argos Value product range and will be installing in-store kiosks specifically for its online “check and reserve” orders.


Asos wins delivery award
Another accolade for Asos: The fashion etailer won the Golden Chariot award, created by ecommerce consultancy Snow Valley to honour excellence in online retail delivery. In other Asos news, last week it launched Curve, a proprietary brand of womenswear in sizes 20-26. 


Online sales good news/bad news
The good news: Year-on-year online sales rose 17 percent in December, to a record £5.46 billion, according to the IMRG Capgemini Sales Index. But the conversion rate dropped 25 percent, to a scant 5 percent from 6.7 percent.
