Royal Mail announces UK's first direct mail sale Royal Mail has unveiled a two-month sale to encourage the increased usage of mail amongst advertisers. A 20 percent discount will be available on new or additional mailings in March and April 2010. Royal Mail says the initiative was designed to help marketers trial new campaign tactics and test the medium in general. |

New CEO for Findel Findel chief operating officer Philip Maudsley will succeed Patrick Jolly as chief executive of the multititle mailer. Jolly will step down as CEO and a director of Findel at the end of the fiscal year, in April. Maudsley has been with Findel for 20 years.

Borders goes bust Bookseller Borders UK fell into administration last week. The company had been acquired in a management buy-out in July. Although administrator MCR says it is looking to sell the business, Borders is running closing sales in its 45 bricks-and-mortar stores and has stopped taking online orders.

DSGi posts better-than-expected financials DSG International’s pretax loss of £17.6 million for the 24 weeks ended 17th October was actually good news: The City had expected a loss of at least £25 million. Underlying group sales for the parent company of Dixons, Currys, and PC World were down 1 percent from last year, to £3.33 billion. Sales within the ecommerce division, which consists of Pixmania and Dixons.co.uk, rose 18 percent from last year, to £324.4 million.

Mamas & Papas to sell via Shop Direct Nursery cataloguer/retailer Mamas & Papas has signed with Shop Direct to sell its products through several of the latter’s catalogues and websites, including Very and Woolworths. The tie-up is scheduled to go into effect in February.

Otto puts brand on selling block Mail order giant Otto Group is looking to divest its Privileg white-goods brand, and German retail giant Metro is said to be interested in buying it. Germany-based Otto acquired Privileg as part of its purchase last month from insolvent cataloguer/retailer Arcandor of the rights to the Quelle catalogue brand and related brands for Germany and several Central and Eastern European countries.
