Postal strikes likely to continue
Hopes of averting yet more postal strikes are fading as the Communications Workers Union (CWU) is expected to go ahead with its plans to stage a three-day strike this week. The union and Royal Mail have been in talks since Monday, trying to reach an agreement in a dispute over jobs, pay and modernisation. At press time the CWU was yet to make a formal statement. Last week CWU members staged two 24-hour strikes, reportedly delaying more than 30 million items of mail. Royal Mail today said the backlog will be reduced to two million items by close of play.

Buy.com extends international reach
US-based electronics etailer Buy.com has opened up ecommerce sites in Canada, France, Germany, and the UK as well as eBay stores in those territories. All international sites are in the local languages and currencies. Online stores for Italy and Spain will go live by the end of the year. Buy.com first launched a UK division in March 2000, but it was bought by John Lewis when the US parent shelved plans for further European expansion after running into financial difficulties.
