Flying Brands to shut Greetings Direct
|
| Just two years after buying Greetings Direct, Flying Brands will start winding down the business, with a goal of having it shut down within 12 months. Only a few months ago Flying Brands said it was “convinced” by the “excellent response levels” to the continuity greetings-card brand in Australia that the brand would succeed in the States, but a subsequent test there was a disappointment. Flying Brands’ other businesses include Gardening Direct and Flying Flowers. |

DC workers to strike at Argos
|
| Members of the Unite union at four Argos distribution centres have voted to strike. The dates of a series of 24-hour strikes and a four-day work stoppage, which are expected to be announced later this week, will likely coincide with the release of the next catalogue. The workers rejected the offer of a 4-percent pay rise from Argos parent company Home Retail Group. |

Findel posts 3-percent sales rise
|
| Findel reported a 3-percent rise in first-quarter sales. Findel operates three divisions: home shopping, which includes the Express Gifts, Kitbag and Kleeneze brands; educational supplies, which includes NES Arnold and Step by Step; and healthcare. |

| Pamela Aujla was named to the board of directors of TV and online shopping firm Ideal Shopping Direct as commercial director. She was most recently vice president of retail for Lego Co. |

Figleaves to relaunch site
|
| Lingerie etailer Figleaves.com is relaunching its website using ATG’s ecommerce suite. The new site should enable Figleaves to get a better view of customers across all channels throughout their lifecycle and to offer customers better-targeted product recommendations, among other improvements. |

Baugur to relocate to the UK
|
| Icelandic firm Baugur, whose stable of UK multichannel retailers includes Hamleys and House of Fraser, is relocating to the UK. The move will allow Jon Asgeir Johannesson to remain executive chairman following his conviction in Iceland of bookkeeping-related offences. |

Flash to become search-engine friendly
|
| Adobe has been working with Google and Yahoo! to upgrade its Flash technology so that content created with the application can be searched. This would enable websites to add more rich media without lowering their position on search results pages. |
