    Toolstation sells stake to Travis Perkins

    Mark Goddard-Watts has negotiated the sale of Toolstation, the business he founded after his family's sale of Screwfix to Kingfisher. Travis Perkins which owns Wickes, in addition to its chain of traditional builder's merchants, has acquired an initial 30 per cent stake in Toolstation for £5 million along with an option to buy the remaining shares. Travis Perkins plans to invest to enable Toolstation to open additional stores throughout the UK and take the Toolstation team's expertise in multi-channel trading to its core business.
     

    Evan Cycles set to expand following investment

    FW Evans has sold a majority stake in its business to Active Private Equity to enable it to expand. The cycle specialist has 31 retail outlets as well as a successful mail order and online business. Its annual sales are running at c£45 million and rising as health and environmental issues encourage more consumers to take up cycling.
     

    Manutan achieves second quarter growth

    Key Industrial and Rapid Racking parent Manutan International has reported sales growth of 11.4 per cent for its second quarter this fiscal (January-March). The group has also acquired additional warehouse space in the Czech Republic to support its business development drive in Central Europe.
     

    Publishers compete with Amazon

    Penguin, Bloomsbury, and other publishers have begun to discount their titles on their own websites as well as offering free postage in an attempt to lure customers from Amazon. Amazon also faces growing competition from traditional booksellers who operate online stores.

    Direct Marketing Manager

    Key Responsibilities
    • To help generate and implement initial departmental circulation plans and budgets
    • Help plan, implement and manage all direct marketing initiatives via web and catalogue
    • Deliver analytical data, trend information and modelling techniques to support creative and effective brand messaging as well as increased sales.
    • Deliver weekly sales and merchandise performance reporting across all direct channels.
    • Deliver and oversee all appropriate and effective 3rd party marketing strategies, including, but not limited to affiliates, direct mail list providers, corporate marketing partners and key brand stakeholders.
    • Manage the G&G database, seasonal modelling, planning, growth and development
    • Managing the development and execution of online, PPC and SEO marketing plans and strategies
    • Be responsible for the timely management of the product cycle
    • Be responsible for predicting at product level the redemptions levels for the catalogues to eliminate unnecessary stock outs and customer returns.
