    ECMOD Awards Shortlist

    All members of our judiciary panel have now returned their scores which have been computed. The result is that the following companies have made it through to the shortlist for their business performance in 2007:

    Manutan acquires Rapid Racking

    Manutan Group, the European distance selling industrial and office equipment business, has acquired UK shelving and storage specialist Rapid Racking. Established in 1986 Rapid Racking notched up sales of £18 million in the year to 30 April 2007 and employs some 100 staff.
     

    Ideal Shopping sales grow

    Ideal Shopping Direct, the TV and online merchant, achieved a 27.7 per cent increase in its sales to 30th December 2007. It expects its full year sales to have reached £97 million having recruited some 380,000 new customers during 2007. Its preliminary results will be announced on March 4th.
     

    Findel sells James Galt

    US based Elmer’s Products has completed its acquisition of James Galt & Co from Findel plc for £9 million. This is the first international acquisition for Elmer’s.
     

    Folio Society partners with Sunday Times

    The Folio Society is partnering with Sunday Times Fine Books to promote a range of exclusive editions via a continuity programme. TFS has appointed Entire to develop the customer acquisition campaign.
     

    ASOS in major recruitment drive

    ASOS, the fast growing fashion e-tailer, has announced plans to expand its buying and merchandising team following a highly successful year.
     

    Corporate Express rebuffs Staples

    Staples has had its $3.67 billion offer for Netherlands headquartered Corporate Express rejected.
     

    Rescue deal for Elvi

    Elvi has been bought out of administration in a deal that secures the jobs of its 500 employees including its management. The identity of the new backer has yet to be revealed.
     

    US market falters

    Both Sharper Image Corp and Lillian Vernon Corp have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following poor trading. The weak economy led to much reduced demand over the holiday season for both businesses. US pundits predict further casualties and retrenchment in the sector.
     

    Woolworths contracts with Zendor

    Fulfilment services business Zendor, which was recently sold by N Brown Group to GSI, has had its contract extended by Woolworths. The Rochdale based service provider will fulfil online and catalogue orders for three of Woolworths product groups, pre-school, kitchen and living. Zendor has worked for Woolworths since 2004.
