    Elvi on the blocks

    Elvi, the plus-size women’s fashion retailer headed by former White Company managing director Oliver Spark, is up for sale after falling into administration. Administrator Lindsey Cooper of Baker Tilly said in a statement that despite having a “very well developed website and customer database”, Elvi was unable to secure its financial position. It is understood that financial backers Langholm Capital pulled out of the business earlier this year. The business trades from 28 of its own stores and a further 63 department store concessions.
     

    Scotts & Co boosts management team with new appointments

    Scotts of Stow, Presents Direct and Viva! parent company Scotts & Co has strengthened its management team with three key appointments. Rachel Davies joins as catalogue manager within the production department, Steven Holland joins as a senior buyer, and former Cotswold Company mail order marketing manager Lukas O’Neill joins the marketing department as head of customer acquisition. The company has said that further appointments are to be announced over the coming months.
     

    Big marketing push at MandMDirect

    MandMDirect.com is embarking on a multimillion-pound marketing campaign to help it achieve 20-percent growth per annum for the next three years. It has appointed brand response agency The Black Hole to deliver planning and creative for the campaign which will encompass on- and offline media.
     

    ECMOD Awards boom & will support Macmillan Cancer Support

    Despite recent well publicised casualties in the sector, the ECMOD awards have attracted strong entry levels and all entries are now in the hands of the extended panel of judges. The shortlist is expected to be released at close of play on February 20th and the eventual winners revealed on March 5th at the ECMOD Awards Presentation Dinner. Awards project manager Karen Williams confirmed that take up of tables for the black tie event at the Natural History Museum has been strong but that there are still a few tables for ten and individual seats available. She also announced that the charity selected as beneficiary of the event is Macmillan Cancer Support. Businesses pledging prizes for the evening’s draw will themselves be entered into a draw to win two tickets for the gala evening.
     

    Quebecor shuts down

    More than 250 jobs have been axed as troubled Quebecor World plc closes its doors in Corby, Northants. Administrators from Ernst & Young had been trying to sell the printing firm, a division of Canadian company Quebecor World, as a going concern. The UK business had been losing £4 million a year before the administrators were appointed on 29th January.
     

    RS upgrades website

    RS Components has relaunched its website with an upgraded search and navigation engine powered by Endeca. The site showcases more than 230,000 products with over 1 million product attributes and related documents. Online transactions currently account for 40 percent of sales.
     

    Last few places for Libey’s business leaders forum

    One of the sector’s most in demand non-executive directors, Don Libey, returns to the UK to deliver The Multi-Channel Business Leaders Forum on March 5th. The top management day is being held in the salubrious surroundings of the Roof Gardens in Kensington and promises to inspire and show delegates how they can improve business performance and profitability. Confirmed delegates include board level representatives from a broad spectrum of sector businesses like Boden, Lands’ End, MandM Direct, House of Bath, Lyco Direct, Shoe-shop.com, Healthy Direct, etc..
     

    Docdata expands offering with acquisition

    Docdata, the Dutch company that acquired UK fulfilment business Braywood in November 2006, is buying a majority stake in ecommerce provider Hitura for £245,000.
     

    BT takes Fresca

    BT has acquired ecommerce service provider Fresca for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will help BT Expedite, the retail solutions division of BT, offer a “comprehensive ecommerce platform,” said a statement from the company.
     

    Woolworths contracts with Zendor

    Fulfilment services business Zendor, which was recently sold by N Brown Group to GSI, has had its contract extended by Woolworths. The Rochdale based service provider will fulfil online and catalogue orders for three of Woolworths product groups, pre-school, kitchen and living. Zendor has worked for Woolworths since 2004.
