EthicalSuperstore.com acquired by Spark Response EthicalSuperstore.com, a seller of all things eco-friendly, has been acquired by Spark Response, a contact centre and fulfilment firm. The newly acquired business will operate as a new subsidiary company called Spark etail Ltd. Ethical Superstore founders Andy Redfern and Vic Morgan together with Spark directors Noel Lambert and Peter Slee will form the board of directors of the new business.

Seven companies reach Catalogue e-business Readers’ Award shortlist Seven highly respected direct commerce businesses have reached the shortlist of the inaugural Catalogue e-business Readers’ Award. Having received some 462 votes, it was too close to call between Asos, Boden, Charles Tyrwhitt, Kiddicare, Lakeland, Net-a-Porter, and The White Company. As a result, it will fall to delegates at the CatEx Round Table Day—held on the same day as the ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards on 6th April—to cast their votes so that the outright winner can be named. The outright winner will then be invited to accept the trophy as part of the ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards evening. |

The hub is built and hosted by social loyalty platform, BeAddictive.com and links with Facebook, Twitter and other social-media platforms, as well as with bespoke specifications planned by Boden. Sales up at Lovehoney Online retailer Lovehoney predicts a turnover of £13.5 million for the year ending 31st March. This represents a 29.8 percent increase on last year’s £10.4 million. |
Flying Brands has a disappointing 2010 A “difficult year” at Flying Brands saw 2010 end with a sales and profits dip at the multititle cataloguer. Group revenue from continuing business for the 52 weeks ending 31st December 2010 was £28.0 million, compared with £29.4 million in 2009. Group pretax profit from continuing operations slid from £2.39 million in 2009 to £220,000 last year. |
Next hit with VAT bill Multichannel retailer Next has been served with a tax bill totalling approximately £6 million after a VAT tribunal found it was unable to claim VAT back on catalogues it had given its customers for free. |
Argos parent issues profit warning Total sales at Argos declined 3.5 percent to £4.19 billion in the year to 26th February. Sister company Homebase fared slightly better—sales were £1.55 billion, just 0.3 percent behind on a like-for-like basis. As a result of this, parent company Home Retail Group expects pretax profit for the full year to be between £250 million and £255 million, down from its January forecast of £263 million. |
Lyle and Scott starts selling on Facebook Apparel brand Lyle and Scott is to launch a social-media commerce store enabling customers to shop through Facebook. The application, developed by BT Fresca, follows Lyle and Scott’s recently relaunched mobile-optimised website. |
Morrisons invests in US grocer Following its acquisition of Kiddicare last month, supermarket Morrisons has made a £32 million investment in US online grocer FreshDirect. The deal sees Morrisons take a 10 percent stake in the New York-based business as well as a seat on its board. |
