Flying Brands completes acquisition As part of its strategy to acquire businesses that are complementary to its product range, Flying Brands has completed the acquisition of Garden Centre Online, an online retailer of gardening hardware products, for £130,000. For the 12 months ending August 2009, turnover at Garden Centre Online was £1.25 million, which generated a loss before tax of £110,000. It is anticipated that for the period to 31st August 2010, sales will be similar to 2009 with a small loss before tax. Flying Brands operates Gardening Direct and Garden Bird Supplies among other titles.

Mobile Fun back in the black Phone accessories etailer Mobile Fun has reported renewed sales growth and a return to profit for the year ending 31st March. The company posted sales of more than £7 million—a rise of 15 percent on 2009. Pretax profit was approximately £500,000, compared with a loss of £17,000 the previous year. The online retailer attributes its recent success to increased demand for iPhone, iPad and smartphone accessories.

M&S confirms new chairman Marks & Spencer confirmed that Robert Swannell is to join its board on 4th October as a nonexecutive director prior to taking up the position of chairman when Sir Stuart Rose retires in January 2011. Swannell is currently chairman at HMV.

Farrow & Ball ramps up international capabilities Wallpaper and paint brand Farrow & Ball is to relaunch its website on the FrescaCommerce platform. The company already serves customers in more than 60 countries and its current website is available in multiple currencies and languages. BT Fresca will design, build and host the new site, which will be able to handle its current requirements as well as allow for future development. It will also integrate with Farrow & Ball’s supply chain and other software.

Tesco trials drive-thru concept Tesco is trialling a “drive-thru” supermarket. Similar to the home-delivery service, customers shop online, but instead of having products delivered to their doorstep, customers drive to their nearest Tesco to have them loaded into their car boot.

High and Mighty relaunches flagship store High and Mighty, the big and tall clothing specialist, is celebrating 50 years of trading with a relaunch of its flagship store on Edgware Road, London. The store will open on Friday, 10th September and the celebration is part of a £1 million refurbishment programme of High and Mighty stores, following an acquisition by N Brown Group in September 2009.
