More redundancies at Shop Direct Shop Direct, the parent company of Littlewoods, Kays, and Very, may shed up to 160 positions at it looks to outsource IT jobs to third parties. It is understood that Shop Direct is planning to transfer 151 of its staff to IT provider IBM and that a further nine jobs could go after it renegotiates a contract with its network provider Cable & Wireless in July. Shop Direct had announced in January that up to 1,500 workers would be made redundant with the closure of three of its call centres.

Asda beefs up online division Asda is planning to create 300 jobs at a home shopping centre in north London as it seeks to increase its online capacity by 50 percent. The new picking centre is due to open in mid-August serving homes within a 45-minute catchment area around Enfield.

Clarks posts a sales rise According to published reports, revenue at shoe retailer Clarks is up 4.5 percent from £1.12 billion to £1.17 billion in the year ending January 2010. Pretax profit, however, dipped 2 percent to £85.1 million as a result of an increased pension deficit.
