Mothercare to buy Blooming Marvellous? Speculation is rife that maternity and nursery retailer Mothercare may be about to buy apparel retailer/cataloguer Blooming Marvellous. Blooming Marvellous was bought out of administration in March last year by Ethel Austin owner Elaine McPherson and a team of private investors.

Harrods sold Mohamed Al Fayed has sold Harrods to the Qatari royal family in a deal rumoured to be worth £1.5 billion. Qatar Holding becomes only the fifth owner of Harrods since it was established in 1840.

Asos founder behind new secret-sales website Achica, a new private-sales website, has launched in the UK selling luxury brands at marked-down prices. The business, set up by Asos founder Quentin Griffiths and former TradeDoubler chief executive Will Cooper, has commissioned GSI to manage and operate storage, packaging, and shipment for its UK and European operations.

Fife Country expands bricks-and-mortar presence Country-clothing retailer/cataloguer Fife Country is to open its second bricks-and-mortar store. The new shop, in Inverness, will sell the company’s own-brand clothing as well as Musto, Harris Tweed, and other familiar outdoor-apparel names. Until now, Fife Country had operated only one store—at its headquarters in Fife.

Kitbag opens pop-up shop Sporting goods etailer Kitbag, part of the Findel group, has opened a pop-up store in Manchester ahead of the football World Cup. The store will remain open for 12 weeks to enable football fans to buy kit, boots, and other apparel during the tournament.

Nimans reshuffles board, chief executive departs Telecoms distributor Nimans has restructured its executive board. The board now comprises David Bennett, financial director; James Perkins, sales director; John Cunningham, operations director; Andy Winfield, purchasing director; Phil Gee, company secretary and chairman Julian Niman. Chief executive Paula Gillings has left the business; Niman assumes responsibility for her duties.
