Molton Brown plans international expansion Beauty brand Molton Brown has announced plans to expand into new international markets. Molton Brown, whose products are already available in 80 countries through 60 stores, at department stores, hotels, through airline partners, airports, and spas, is looking to expand its ecommerce capabilities. Its two websites currently serve US and UK customers, and Molton Brown plans to extend its ecommerce reach to other European countries, as well as to Japan and Australia. To support its expansion, the retailer has chosen to build its new website on the ATG Commerce platform with the aim of increasing online sales and creating a single view of the customer across all channels. |

White Stuff secures funding To help support it through the next stage of growth, which includes opening 10 new stores next year and increasing its product offer, apparel retailer White Stuff has arranged a new working capital facility with Lloyds bank. Also as part of its continuing expansion, White Stuff has made a number of key appointments to its management team: Alison Lancaster joins as home shopping director, she was formerly marketing director at Harrods Direct, and prior to that held a similar post at shirtmaker Charles Tyrwhitt; Andrew Webb is appointed chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the business, specifically retail, home shopping, supply chain, finance, IT, and property; Helen Marshall is named retail director and Aviva Bard is promoted from merchandise director to commercial director.

Ideal Shopping Direct moves into the black TV-shopping business Ideal Shopping Direct delivered underlying pretax profit of £1.3 million compared with a £4 million loss in 2008. Sales are also on the increase, up 9.2 percent to £103.3 million. The new fiscal year has started well too, with sales up 17.5 percent in the first 10 weeks compared with the same period in 2009.

Halfords to close Czech and Polish stores Halfords will pull out from its loss-making operations in eastern Europe this summer. The auto-accessories retailer confirmed its intention to close seven stores trading in the Czech Republic and Poland. In the UK and Ireland, meanwhile, Halfords saw revenues increase 1.3 percent with like-for-like sales 0.8 percent higher than the previous year in the 11 weeks to 19th March.

Ann Summers expands product range Lingerie and sex-toy retailer Ann Summers is set to move out of the bedroom by expanding its range to sell cosmetics and swimwear. The new lines will be unveiled next month.

Ocado shows strong growth ahead of stock-exchange listing Groceries etailer Ocado delivered a 25 percent rise in gross sales to £427.3 million in the year to 29th November 2009. Ocado, which has yet to report a pretax profit, saw losses narrow by a third to £14.4 million last year.

Fourth-quarter brighter for Farnell Full year revenues at components firm Premier Farnell declined by 10 percent to £795.3 million, and underlying operating profit plunged 27 percent from £88.8 million in fiscal 2008/9 to £72.7 million this year. However, performance began to show improvement in the fourth-quarter with sales and underlying operating profit achieving year-on-year growth of 6 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively.
