Ocado prepares for £1 billion stock market flotation Online grocery retailer Ocado is expected to be propelled into the FTSE 250 when it floats on the stock exchange later this year. The company is said to have appointed a number of investment banks to advise it on the move, which could come as soon as May.

Halfords to diversify? Auto accessories retailer Halfords is considering acquiring HobbyCraft, the retail chain selling arts and crafts items. HobbyCraft was put up for sale in late 2009 and is expected to fetch a price of £70 million. Both companies have declined to comment on the reports.

Mothercare extends its reach Mothercare has signed a deal with Boots to design, source and supply a new children’s clothing and accessories brand. The move is part of Mothercare’s plan to increase sales by expanding the company’s wholesale operations.

Is Facebook the way forward? Facebook is now the best way to reach shoppers, according to a study by online customer satisfaction firm Foresee. Almost ten thousand visitors to the biggest e-retail websites in the UK were questioned. More than half of those who use social networking sites have elected to “friend”, “follow” or “subscribe” to a retailer.
